Members of the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Resource Advisory Group recently helped our Grounds Department “seed the land” adjacent to the new beehives brought to The Ford Plantation by Chef Juan Carlos. This act of good stewardship will enhance the honey yield of the hives by planting seeds of native plants in proximity to the new hives. Plentiful flowers and fresh water are fundamental to the success of the hives.

A professional beekeeper will oversee the hive health and honey production, and when the time is right, he will spin the first honey labeled for The Ford Plantation—made on the Plantation! As we look forward to obtaining the final segment of our Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Certification, these practices underscore our continued commitment to conservation of areas that enhance habitats for native pollinators.
