The Ford Plantation Top in the Southeast for BioBlitz
The Audubon BioBlitz was a huge success for its first year at Ford! From October 1 through December 1, our members were hard at work taking photos to document all of the flora and fauna species here on property.
Our winners of the Overall Best Species Count was Team BioBabes (Christina Trolinger, Susie Morgan, Marcy Alvarez, Linda Zerbe, and Cheryl Chip) with 272 species of plants and animals documented! We had two Rare Species Awards, Linda Zerbe’s Hybrid Frog and Peggy Gillenwater’s Mediterranean House Gecko. The Best Photo and Most Diverse Species Count was held by Team Flying Dutchmen (Yael Van Hulst, Wiesje Van Hulst, Payton Brown, and Dalton Brown) with 86 unique species.
We could not be prouder of our wonderful teams’ amazing results. They sent in a total of 1,567 observations, with 601 individual species identified. That beat out every golfing community in the Southeast, with Jekyll Island Golf Club being the closest with 532 species.
Way to represent our beautiful property and show the rest of the world just how special the natural environment is here at Ford!
